The GP Unique

It's hard to find a more stylish hatchback than the GP Unique. It's got massive intakes, arch extensions and a two-part rear wing; the kind of design features normally reserved for tricked-out French unicorns.

Thankfully the GP Unique doesn't just look attractive, but also feels incredibly fast. The engine is smooth and powerful, its 332lb ft of torque arriving with little fuss from below 1,750rpm, and it's well-matched with the quick-shifting six-speed automatic gearbox. Mini is keen on lap times, so it's unfortunate that the GP Unique does not have an automatic transmission.

That said, it's not without faults. For instance, the GP Unique's damping system is a bit firm, but it doesn't require much effort. If you drive straight and smooth B road, you can easily work the chassis's dynamic limits however, it's hard to stay fluid with your inputs. The front end can become somewhat snatchy, and the car struggles to keep its course when under the stress of irregular British bumps.

When you dial in the GP Unique, its handling is exceptional. Its powerful front end and body control are reminiscent of the JCW race car we drove last year. On a slippery surface, and when you're in determined mood, it's an absolute pleasure to drive.

The car's chassis is distinct from the standard MT-09 thanks to its increased torsional rigidity as well as larger axles. The new GP's 24.7 degrees of rake, and 108mm of trail feel more pronounced on the nose when in comparison to the R6. But it also provides incredible stability in turns.

The PO Generator module is a great feature in GP. This module lets you review your inventory and the min/max level you've set for each item and any open POs your suppliers have (i.e. more inventory is coming) and it generates suggested purchase order that you can forward to your suppliers.

The GP 500

The GP 500 is Airoh’s lightest GP Helmet to date. It helps reduce neck strain, fatigue and increase safety by reducing pressure on the shoulders. The shell is aerodynamic, and features a chin-curtain sloper that improves aerodynamics as well as reducing wind buffeting. Its EQRS quick release system is similar to the one used on the majority of track-focused motorbike helmets, enabling emergency services to take off the helmet without disturbing the wearer's neck.

Like most modern helmets, the GP500 is Snell and SHARP certified, and has an SHARP three-star rating. This isn't the most prestigious rating, but it's nevertheless a decent one considering that it offers front to side and back impact protection.

I was very impressed with the quality of the images. The GP500 is capable of projecting an image as high as 4K, and it was able to do so with outstanding clarity. According to BenQ's specifications, it also had a very low lag between inputs in both Game Mode and Fast Mode.

In terms of the accuracy of color, it was very close to perfection with a DeltaE error of just 2.3 which is quite impressive. It also displayed superb grayscale performance, with crisp and distinct shades. The GP500 also displayed subtle rainbow colors when viewing the Adam Project. They were clear to see however they did not affect the viewing experience.

The sound quality is also remarkable. The GP500 features an independent DSP chip with treVolo Psychoacoustic Tuning which creates 3D audio effects. It is equipped with an internal quad speaker layout that is placed at the corners of the cabinet. It is designed to create a full sound field for all viewers regardless of the seating position in the room.

There are several options for connectivity with HDMI inputs 1 3, 2, and 3 and an optical Toslink SPDIF port for passing native Dolby Atmos bitstreams to an external sound bar. The GP500 comes with two Type-A USB 2.0 ports to stream content. It also has the 12-volt screen trigger.

The GP 900

Sceptics may point out that the GP looks like a naked XSR900 dressed in a Wayne Rainey frock. But the truth is that Yamaha's designers used their creativity to create a heartfelt tribute to its sporting heritage. The GP's new Deltabox frame and swingarm are both 55mm longer however it is more compact and planted in corners thanks to the altered the geometry of the chassis. Meanwhile, a full-spec 6-axis IMU offers a variety of electronic riding aids to the platform, and KYB suspension is upgraded with a larger front fork and a longer wheelbase.

The GP's cowl that is symmetrically shaped has a neat trick. Two air vents are positioned inside the cowl to decrease the pressure inside and disperse the heat generated by the motor. This creates a sleeker look and lowers the bike's centre of gravity. The GP's brand new colour TFT dashboard is also an important feature, showing messages and call notifications as well as the ability to utilize Garmin StreetCross navigation and turn-by-turn directions (free for the first year).

In terms of rider control the GP offers three preset riding modes and an individual mode that can be manually set by the user. The GP also gets a new suite of technology that is connected to smartphones, including a YConnect app which integrates smartphone integration and media control as well as cruise-control and a USB Type C socket to charge gadgets.

It's not difficult to see that the GP 900 is an excellent sports heritage-inspired machine, but it's also the ideal commuter or weekend blaster. The 117bhp CP3 engine is extremely usable and offers a broad range of power that can be utilized at low revs. Even at speed on the road, the GP comes with a roar of midrange hoo-hah that's enough to reset your calculations for speed, time, and distance and utterly eviscerate Google Maps' estimated time of arrival. The GP's chassis has the right amount of stiffness - it's not as stiff as a R6 nor as light and agile like the TT500. It's an absolute blast to ride and a real riot.
